Störung als Bild: Ringen um Kontrolle

Wie lässt sich der fotografische Prozess der analogen Fotografie mit möglichst geringer Veränderung sichtbar machen? So oder ähnlich könnte eine Ausgangsfrage der Dunkelkammerdialoge der beiden Künstlerinnen, denen eine berufliche Erfahrung als Fotolaborantin gemein ist, lauten. Abläufe und Bewegungen in der Dunkelkammer haben sich als automatisiert in ihr Körperwissen eingeschrieben. Das Gespräch nimmt die Illusion idealer Laborbedingungen und das Ringen um Kontrolle im fotografischen Prozess als Ausgangspunkt und entwickelt sich entlang Roland Barthes Überlegungen zum Wesen der Fotografie, um ihm möglicherweise über den Umweg der „Störung als Bild“ etwas näherzukommen.

The Inadvertent as Image: The Struggle for Control
How can the photographic process of analog photography be made visible with as little alteration as possible? This could be the starting question for the darkroom dialogues between the two artists, who share professional experience as photo lab technicians. The processes and movements in the darkroom have become so ingrained in their physical knowledge that they have become automatic. The conversation draws on the illusion of ideal laboratory conditions and the struggle for control in the photographic process as its source, developing along Roland Barthes’ reflections on the nature of photography to possibly come closer to it via the detour of “the inadvertent as image.”
